Morning Run

I live in a subdivision bordered by farmland. One reason I chose our house was because of the fields. My head is fueled by the stimulation of the city but my heart breathes in the country. When we moved here I ran the long flat roads, mindful of when the corn went in and when it got high. Now there are more subdivisions with more on the way. The view is changing and it's unsettling. There are more cars and they don't slow down. There is trash in the ditch. But when I run I look for the red-wing blackbirds. My sneakers make chunking noises over broken stalks. It is warm and I can smell mud and hot grass and spring.

Thank you for the tip about the IMA sale! I am going to try to make it up that way since I will be downtown anyway today.

I live in area very similar to what you describe (new subdivision bordered by fields). I agree that it is very disturbing to see the amount of trash that people are throwing out in the ditches.

You morning run sounds very delightful - for me it would be a morning walk. I am not a runner at all.

Have you ever seen coyotes that early in the morning in the fields around your area? I have been seeing and hearing them more and more. It kinda scares me because they are so close - but more than likely they have been displaced due to all the construction around here.

No coyotes but we've seen a very large red fox twice!
